Rabat Rabat, Malta was the erstwhile suburb of Mdina, which is reflected in its name, since "Rabat" is the Arabic word for "suburb". Nowadays the former suburb outstripped Mdina regarding its number of inhabitants and its size. The village is the centre of the western half of the island of Malta and has approximately 11.000 denizens.
