In the horizontal hierarchy, the apse of the altar ranks first. Above, one finds Maria in a representative attitude between the archangels and with a rather adult Christ child in her lap. Byzantine art emphasizes the divine nature of Jesus and therefore a representation of the saviour as a clumsy baby was inconceivable.
In der horizontalen Hierarchie steht die Apsis des Altarraums an erster Stelle. Darüber findet man Maria in repräsentativer Haltung zwischen den Erzengeln mit einem ziemlich erwachsenen Christus im Schoß. Die byzantinische Kunst betont die Gottesnatur von Jesus und deshalb war eine Darstellung des Heilbringers als unbeholfenes Kind nicht denkbar.
