Majestically, the former Cathedral of Saint Nicholas surmounts the city. The Gothic building, modelled after the cathedral in Reims, was begun in 1298 and finished 28 years later. It was only with the Ottomans that the church changed its purpose and became an elegant and unpretentious mosque.
Majestätisch thront die einstige Kathedrale über der Stadt. Der nach dem Vorbild der Kathedrale im französischen Reims gestaltete gotische Prachtbau wurde 1298 begonnen und schon 28 Jahre später vollendet. Erst mit den Osmanen wechselte die Kirche ihre Bestimmung und wurde zu elegant-schlichten Moschee.
