Fishery is the most important economic factor on the island. The rich mineral deposits such as coal, uranium, gold, oil and gas have so far hardly been used. The Danish state, with its annual grants, remains the most important source of income on the island.

Wichtigster Wirtschaftsfaktor der Insel ist der Fischfang. Die reichen Bodenschätze wie Kohle, Uran, Gold, Öl und Gas wurden bislang kaum genutzt. So bleibt der dänische Staat mit seinen jährlichen Zuschüssen die bedeutendste Einkommensquelle der Insel.
