Located at a side branch of Lake Mälar south of Uppsala lays one of the oldest cities of Sweden: Sigtuna. Here, King Olaf Eriksson established the empire’s first mint in 995. For 300 years Sigtuna was capital and seat of the kings with seven churches. With the rise of Uppsala and Stockholm the city lost its position in the Middle Ages. Today Sigtuna presents itself as an idyllic small town with a beautiful lakeside promenade and picaresque wooden houses.

. König Olaf Eriksson gründete hier im Jahre 995 das erste Münzhaus des Reiches. Für 300 Jahre war Sigtuna Hauptstadt mit Königssitz und sieben Kirchen. Erst mit dem Aufstieg Uppsalas und Stockholms verlor die Stadt im Mittelalter an Bedeutung. Heute präsentiert sie sich als idyllische Kleinstadt mit schöner Seepromenade und malerischen Holzhäusern.
