The fourth hill is not another burial site, but a gathering place for the “Thing”, an early kind of parliament. In the whole Germanic settlement region even already 1,500 years ago gatherings took place to administer justice and find political consensus. All free men of a certain tribal area were allowed to participate. The gatherings were led by priests or military leaders, in later periods also by nobles and kings.
Beim vierten Hügel handelt es sich nicht um ein weiteres Grab, sondern um einen Versammlungsplatz für das Thing, eine Art frühes Parlament. Im gesamten germanischen Raum fanden schon vor 1500 Jahren Versammlungen zum Zwecke der politischen Meinungsfindung und zur Rechtsprechung statt. Zugelassen waren alle freien Männer eines bestimmten Stammesgebietes. Den Vorsitz führte ein Priester oder ein Heerführer, später auch Fürsten und Könige.
