Next to the park, a chocolate museum commemorates the fact that in 1780 Europe's first chocolate factory began operations. The Spanish conquistadors had found the cocoa plant in their Central American colonies. There it was cultivated already 3500 years ago by the Olmecs and later by the Mayas and Aztecs. The name goes back to them, because the Aztecs called the drink of cocoa mixed with water xocolatl. But the Europeans did not enjoy in the bitter juice. Only while adding honey and cane sugar hot chocolate reach the European coffee houses in the 17th and 18th century.
Am Rand des Parks erinnert ein Schokoladenmuseum an die Tatsache, dass in Barcelona 1780 die erste Schokoladenmanufaktur Europas ihren Betriebaaufnahm. Die spanischen Konquistadores hatten die Kakaopflanze in ihren mittelamerikanischen Kolonien kennengelernt. Dort wurde sie vor 3500 Jahren von den Olmeken und später von den Mayas und Azteken angebaut. Auf sie geht auch der Name zurück, denn die Azteken nannten das mit Wasser vermischte Kakaogetränk xocolatl. Doch hatten die Europäer am bitteren Saft wenig Freude. Erst mit der Zugabe von Honig und Rohrzucker hielt die heiße Schokolade im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert Einzug in die europäischen Kaffeehäuser.
