Besonders gefragt war der kostbare Marmor in der Antike für die Herstellung von Statuen. Am Fuße des historischen Steinbruchs lassen sich immer noch die Zeugnisse der damaligen Steinmetze bewundern. Der Kouros von Flerio, eine 6 m lange und 2600 Jahre alte Jünglingsstatue blieb hier unvollendet liegen, weil während der Arbeiten das rechte Bein brach.
The precious marble was particularly in demand for the production of statues in ancient times. At the foot of the historic quarry you can still admire the testimonies of the stonemasons of that time. The Kouros of Flerio is a 6-meter-long and 2600-year-old statue of a young man. It remained unfinished here because his right leg broke during the work.
