Daher überrascht es umso mehr, dass man auf der nur 9 km durchmessenden Insel mit ihren 10.000 Einwohnern auch beschauliche Orte wie Ano Mera findet, die scheinbar im Dornröschenschlaf dahindämmern. Auf einer Anhöhe vor Ano Mera liegt das winzige Kloster Paleokastro. Seine wehrhaften Mauern aus dem 17. Jahrhundert umschließen einen rechteckigen Klosterhof, der heute nur mehr einer vereinsamten jungen Nonne Unterkunft bietet.
Therefore, it is all the more surprising that here are contemplative places like Ano Mera on the only 9 km diameter island with its 10,000 inhabitants. On a hill in front of Ano Mera is the tiny monastery Paleokastro. Its fortified walls from the 17th century surround a rectangular monastery courtyard, which now offers accommodation only to a lonely young nun.
