Gendarmenmarkt#
The square on which the Konzerthaus as well as the French and German Cathedrals are located is called Gendarmenmarkt

, furthermore a statue of the German poet Friedrich Schiller resides in the centre of the square. The name "Gendarmenmarkt" derives from the cuirassier regiment Gens d'Armes, whose stables were located at the square until 1773. Most of the buildings were badly damaged or even destroyed during World War II, but nowadays all the buildings have been restored to their former state.
