, einer 1579 vom österreichischen Militär errichteten Festungsstadt an der Grenze zum osmanischen Reich. Der sechszackige Stern der Festung Karlovac lässt sich heute noch gut erkennen, doch von der Garnisonsstadt im Inneren blieb kaum etwas erhalten. Trotzdem rückte Karlovac Anfang der 1990er Jahre wieder in das Zentrum kriegerischer Wirren.

. It is a fortress town on the border to the Ottoman Empire built by the Austrian military in 1579. The six-pointed star of Karlovac Fortress is still recognizable today, but little remains of the garrison town inside. Nevertheless, Karlovac moved back into the center of military turmoil in the early 1990s.
