The City Walls of Hattusa#

Only the foundation walls are left of the former center of power Hattusa. But they still permit visitors to imagine the enormous extent of this potent empire’s glory. 3500 years ago, 50,000 people lived in Hattusa and made it one of the world’s largest cities of that period. The metropolis was enclosed by a 6 km long city wall and several watchtowers. A part of these defensive structures was recently restored.
Vom einstigen Machtzentrum Hattusa haben sich nur Grundmauern erhalten, doch lassen die enormen Ausmaße den Glanz des mächtigen Reiches erahnen. Vor 3500 Jahren lebten hier über 50.000 Menschen und machten Hattusa zu einer der größten Städte der damaligen Welt. Umgeben war die Metropole von einer 6 km langen Mauer, bestückt mit zahlreichen Wachtürmen. Einen Teil davon hat man jüngst restauriert.
