A winding road leads into the Taurus Mountains, up to 1050 m above sea level. There, a surprise is in store for its visitors. The ancient Selge 37.229444, 31.127222 extends over several peaks, today a remote place, it is hard to believe that once 20,000 people lived here. For many centuries, the city was spared from conquerors. Due to its location like a lookout, the surrounding gorges and the numerous bridges enemies could hardly approach unnoticed. Only the Romans took possession of the territory, but the city continued to flourish and even in Byzantine times it was a diocesan town.

Eine kurvenreiche Straße führt in die Bergwelt des Taurus bis auf 1050 m Seehöhe. Dort wartet eine Überraschung auf Besucher. In einsamer Lage erstreckt sich über mehrere Gipfel das antike Selge 37.229444, 31.127222 . Kaum zu glauben, dass hier einst 20.000 Menschen lebten. Viele Jahrhunderte blieb die Stadt von Eroberern verschont. Aufgrund der Aussichtslage, der umliegenden Schluchten und der zahlreichen Brücken konnten sich Feinde kaum unbemerkt nähern. Erst die Römer bemächtigten sich des Territoriums, doch die Stadt blühte weiter und war noch in byzantinischer Zeit Sitz eines Bischofs.
