In the Muslim culture dignitaries are honoured with the construction of magnificent mausoleums, but that even a woman was given such an honour is of scarcity value. Nigar Hatun, one of the mistresses of the Ottoman sultan Bayezid, was privileged to have her own mausoleum in Antalya. It is overshadowed by the minaret of the Yivliminare Mosque. For a long time, the 38-meter-high minaret from the 13th century served as a landmark for sailors. At its feet a mosque stands on the foundations of a Byzantine church.
Würdenträger ehrt man im muslimischen Kulturkreis mit dem Bau prachtvoller Mausoleen, doch dass auch einer Frau eine solche Ehre zuteil wurde, genießt Seltenheitswert. Nigar Hatun, eine der Geliebten des Osmanensultans Bayezid hatte das Privileg, in Antalya ein eigenes Mausoleum zu erhalten. Es liegt im Schatten des Yivli Minaretts. Der 38m hohe Turm aus dem 13. Jahrhundert diente Seefahrern lange Zeit als Orientierungspunkt. Unterhalb des Minaretts erhebt sich eine Moschee auf dem Fundament einer byzantinischen Kirche.
