The best preserved part of the former city wall was built on the occasion of Emperor Hadrian's visit in 130 as a triumphal arch. Today, the gate forms a representative access to the old city also for non-emperors. Recently, the Ottoman architecture of its houses has been decorated with many a foreign touch.
Das am besten erhaltene Stück der einstigen Stadtmauer wurde anlässlich des Besuches von Kaiser Hadrian im Jahr 130 als Triumphtor errichtet. Heute bildet das Tor auch für Nichtkaiser einen repräsentativen Zugang zur Altstadt. Die osmanisch geprägte Architektur der Häuser schmückt sich neuerdings mit so manch ausländischer Note.
