The Jinuo call themselves 'those who respect the uncle'. In so doing they recall their matriarchal social structure, in which the eldest maternal uncle acts as the head of the family. Today, the Jinuo subsist mainly on the cultivation of tea.
Die Jinuo bezeichnen sich selbst als „die, die den Onkel respektieren“. Sie erinnern damit an ihre matriarchalische Gesellschaftsstruktur, in der der älteste Onkel mütterlicherseits als Familienoberhaupt fungiert. Heute leben die Jinuo hauptsächlich vom Teeanbau.
