Morro Rock 35.368351,-120.865985 is a 581-foot (177 m) volcanic plug located just offshore from Morro Bay in California at the entrance to Morro Bay Harbor. The Rock is protected as the Morro Rock State Preserve. The rock was considered sacred ground by the Salinan and Chumash tribes and up to this day the Chumash people are the only ones that are allowed to climb up Morro Rock for their annual solstice ceremony. Several types of birds nest on Morro Rock and it serves as a reserve for the endangered peregrine falcons.
