Altun Ha is a significant archaeological site 50 km (30 mi) north of Belize City that covers an area of about 14 sq km (5.5 sq mi). The locale was a major Maya commercial center.
The central part of Altun Ha contains the remains of about 500 structures. Two main plazas with many temples and residential structures have been excavated.
