On a hill postures Greenland's most important missionary. The Danish pastor Hans Egede set forth for Greenland in 1721 to evangelize the Vikings. These, however, had long since become extinct. Thus Egede devoted his time to the Inuit. He learned their language and translated Christian values into Greenlandic, not unimaginatively. The passage 'Our daily bread give us today' was incomprehensible for the Inuit, for they had no bread. Egede found a solution: in the Greenlandic Lord's Prayer, it reads 'Our daily seal give us today'.
