It houses a special relic, a fragment of the crucifix. A beautiful legend grows around the monastery's founder, Bishop Toribio: Since the holy man was not very successful in his mission work, he retreated disappointedly into the mountains. There, he managed to convince two hostile animals, a bull and a bear, of the benefits of a peaceful coexistence. Thereby even the coarse fellows of the local mountain people were impressed and converted to Christianity.
Es birgt eine besondere Reliquie, einen Splitter vom Kreuz Christi. Um Klostergründer Bischof Toribio rankt sich eine schöne Legende: Weil der heilige Mann bei seiner Missionsarbeit wenig erfolgreich war, zog er sich enttäuscht in die Berge zurück. Dort gelang es ihm, zwei verfeindete Tiere, einen Ochsen und einen Bären – von den Vorzügen eines friedlichen Zusammenlebens zu überzeugen. Davon ließen sich sogar die rauen Gesellen des hiesigen Bergvolkes beeindrucken und traten doch noch zum Christentum über.
