Spain's greatest folk festival has made Pamplona Spain, Pamplona famous: the festival of San Fermín. Every year in early July, the city goes wild and becomes a playground for freaks from all over the world. Unless there is the fiesta, the capital of the province of Navarra hosts 200,000 permanent residents. Founded by the Roman military leader Pompey the Great in 75 BC., Pamplona became a bustling commercial city. In the 10th century it was chosen as the residence of the kings of Navarre. Pamplona has retained its prosperity thanks to major industrial enterprises including a VW factory until today. Furthermore, countless students enliven the bustling city. In addition to a state university Pamplona hosts a very special, private university. It was founded in 1952 by the fundamentalist Catholic organization Opus Dei with a focus on medicine and management sciences. 1600 professors are supervising about 11,000 Catholic students here.
1600 Professoren betreuen hier etwa 11.000 katholische Studenten.
