In 1591 the festival was celebrated for the first time - in honor of San Fermín, the patron saint of the city. Bull runs and bullfights are in the thick of the hustle and bustle. But the festival became really popular as late as in 1926, when Ernest Hemmingway made the spectacle the main subject of his novel "Fiesta".
1591 wurde das Fest erstmals begangen – zu Ehren von San Fermin, dem Schutzpatron der Stadt. Stierläufe und Stierkämpfe stehen im Mittelpunkt des bunten Treibens. Richtig populär wurde das Fest erst 1926, als Ernest Hemmingway das Spektakel ins Zentrum seines Romans „Fiesta“ rückte.
