Zdroj Fountain#

The Fountain (Fontanna 'Zdrój') was built in 1996, to the project of prof. Alojzy Gryt from the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademia Sztuk Pięknych). The idea to install a glass and granite object among the antique tenement houses had many contestants, among others the then municipal conservator. The President of Wrocław, Bogdan Zdrojewski - his surname was an inspiration for the fountain’s name - said that the fountain was going to stay in Rynek for two years. It has been there ever since and is one of the orientation points around which the citizens and tourists meet. The water circulates in closed circuit so it is not drinking water.
Der Bunnen 'Zdrój' entstand 1996 nach einem Entwurf von Alojzy Gryt, Professor an der Akademie der Schönen Künste. Die Idee, inmitten von historischen Häusern ein Objekt aus Glas aufzustellen, hatte viele Gegner. Widerstand leistete u.a. den damaligen Denkmalschützer. Stadtpräsident Bogdan Zdrojewski - nach seinem Nachnamen wurde der Wasserbrunnen benannt - kündigte an, der Brunnen bleibe für zwei Jahre auf dem Rynek. Er steht bis heute dort und ist einer der Orientierungspunkte, an dem sich Bewohner und Besucher verabreden. Der Brunnen hat einen geschlossenen Wasserkreislauf, man sollte es daher nicht trinken.
