Statue of Pope John XXIII#
The sculpture of John XXIII was installed in Ostrów Tumski in 1968, it is one of the symbols of Wrocław. Pope John XXIII was the one who, after World War II, recognised Polish Church administration of the northern and western lands. The sculpture is 5.2m high. Its author was Ludwika Nitschowa, who also designed the Mermaid in Warsaw. It was built by the authorities of PRL, not with the social or Church fund. John XXIII is known for starting the Second Vatican Council.
