After the entire city centre had been destroyed in the Second World War, the city government of Rotterdam Rotterdam, The Netherlands decided a fundamental new urban development for the old centre after the end of the war. All banks were located near the stock exchange, the ports moved westward to the North Sea. Thus, space was created for spectacular modern architecture and many world-renowned architectural offices (Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, etc.) settled in the city. Built in 1984, the Cube Houses, also known as tree houses or hexagon houses, consist of cubical single-unit detached houses, but tilted 45 degrees.
