Around 200 BC the Romans laid the foundations of a fortified city. Under the name Melita they declared the settlement the island's capital. However, only a few foundation walls and the mosaics of a Roman villa stood the test of time.
Um 200 v.d.Z. legten die Römer den Grundstein für eine befestigte Stadt. Unter dem Namen Melita erklärten sie die Siedlung zur Hauptstadt. Aus der Antike haben jedoch nur einige Grundmauern und Mosaike einer römischen Villa die Zeiten überdauert.
