Apuliens Bauern hatten schon seit jeher ein hartes Los. Die karstigen Böden sind übersät mit großen und kleinen Gesteinsbrocken, die man einsammeln musste, wollte man ein Feld anlegen. Doch wohin mit allem dem Material? In der Not schichtete man sie zu Trockenmauern auf und gliederte die Landschaft in rechteckige Parzellen. Den Rest türmte man ohne Mörtel zu Hütten mit kegelförmigem Dach auf. Ein Trullo war entstanden.
Puglia's farmers have always had a hard fate. The karstic soils are clluttered with large and small boulders, which had to be picked up to create a field. But where to put all the material? So they were piled up to dry stone walls and from now on divided the landscape into rectangular parcels. The rest of it was piled up without mortar to huts with a conical roof. A trullo was born.
