Nördlich von Taranto zieht sich Apuliens größte Schlucht, die bis zu 200 m tiefe Gravina di Laterza, 10 km durchs Land. Ein Wanderweg entlang der Abbruchkante bietet schöne Blicke auf den Fluss, der sich in Jahrtausende langer Erosion tief in das Kalkplateau geschnitten hat.
North of Taranto, Apulia's largest gorge, the Gravina di Laterza, up to 200 m deep, stretches 10 km through the country. A footpath along the scarp offers beautiful views of the river, which has cut deep into the limestone plateau for thousands of years.
