The cloister from the 13th century is a gem in art history. After most Romanesque frescoes have disappeared, today's picture cycle shows the development of Gothic painting until the 16th century. In the middle of this colorful world a strange kind of horse with big ears and a trunk flounces around. It displays the biblical scene 'The death of Eleazar under the elephant' and proves that the painter probably never knew a pachyderm from personal experience.
Ein kunsthistorisches Juwel bildet der Kreuzgang aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Nachdem die meisten romanischen Fresken verschwunden sind, zeigt der heutige Bilderzyklus die Entwicklung der gotischen Malerei bis ins 16. Jahrhundert. Mitten in der bunten Welt stolziert ein eigenartiges Pferd mit großen Ohren und Rüssel. Es zeigt die Bibelszene „Tod des Elzar unter dem Elefanten“ und beweist, dass der Maler wohl keinen Dickhäuter aus eigener Anschauung kannte.
