Die Trophäe der eindrucksvollsten Kirche der Stadt geht jedoch an die Basilika der heiligen Katharina aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Von außen eher unscheinbar, offenbart sich die Pracht erst im Inneren. Italiens drittgrößter Freskenzyklus erzählt Geschichten aus dem Leben Christi, der Schöpfung und der Apokalypse. Besonders die Darstellung der Engel in der Kuppel hat eine nahezu magische Wirkung.
However, the 14th-century Basilica of St. Catherine wins the trophy of the city's most impressive church. From the outside rather inconspicuous, the splendor reveals itself only in its interior. Italy's third largest frescoe cycle tells of the life of Christ, the Creation and the Apocalypse. Especially the depiction of the angels in the dome has an almost magical effect.
