Foresta Umbra#

Tiefe Ruhe und Luft zum Durchatmen verspricht ein Ausflug zur Foresta Umbra, Apuliens einzigem größeren Waldstück und der letzte Rest eines Hochwaldes, der einst ganz Apulien bedeckte. Bis auf 800 m Seehöhe erstreckt sich ein majestätischer Laubwald aus Buchen, Eichen, Kiefern, Kastanien und Linden. In Gehegen entdeckt man noch einige Mufflons, die einst ganz Süditalien bevölkerten. Sie wurden vor etwa 11.000 Jahren in Anatolien domestiziert und sind damit nach dem Hund die ältesten Haustiere des Menschen, die Vorfahren unserer Hausschafe.
Deep peace and air to breathe promises a trip to Foresta Umbra, Apulia's only larger forest and the last remnant of a high forest that once covered all of Puglia. Up to 800 m above sea level, grows a majestic broadleaf forest of beech, oak, pine, chestnut and lime. In game enclosures one discovers some moufflons that once populated the whole of southern Italy. They were domesticated in Anatolia about 11,000 years ago, making them, second to the dog, the oldest pets of humankind, the parent of our domestic sheep.
