Nach Portmagee kommt man nicht nur der Pubs wegen. Von hier starten kleine Boote, die Besucher auf zwei vorgelagerte Felseninseln bringen: Little Skellig und Skellig Michael Skellig Michael, Ireland . Auf der einen sind unzählige Seevögel zuhause, auf der anderen fristeten Mönche ein weltabgeschiedenes Leben. Wer auf Skellig Michael auch an Land gehen möchte, muss seine Bootstour schon Monate im Voraus buchen, denn der Andrang ist groß und die Anzahl der täglichen Besucher streng limitiert. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass die Felsen nur bei gutem Wetter und ruhiger See erreichbar sind, was hier nicht allzu oft der Fall ist. Man braucht also viel Glück, um diese einzigartige Sehenswürdigkeit erkunden zu können
