Feudal life in this world and the hope for eternal life in the hereafter: These contrasts can be experienced by visiting the fashionable mansions Castletown House Castletown House, Ireland and Powerscourt Powerscourt and the contemplative monastery complex of Glendalough Glendalough . Built in 1722 for an Irish Member of Parliament, Castletown House is considered a paradigm of Gregorian architecture. Simple, strictly symmetrical with open staircase and representative entrance, the architectural style refers to the classical antiquity. It deliberately sets itself apart from the much more exuberant Baroque. Only in the interior, the understatement turns into magnificent representation rooms.
