After the Christianization of Iceland, around 1000 AC, the gothi of this area threw the statues of his ancient gods into the floods of a glacier flow. Since then, the foaming cascades bear the name 'Godafoss', "Waterfall of the Gods".
Nach Einführung des Christentums in Island, geschehen um das Jahr 1000, warf der Gode der Region seine alten Götterstatuen in die Fluten eines Gletscherflusses. Seither tragen die schäumenden Kaskaden den Namen „Godafoss“, „Wasserfall der Götter“.
