Between the steep cliffs of the Eyjafjördur lies the parsonage of Laufas Laufas, Iceland , with an evangelical church in the centre and which has been inhabited since the 16th century. The adjoining farmhouse is one of the most beautiful on the island. The construction of peat sods is easily comprehensible here. They ensure a good insulation but also an unpleasantly smelly indoor climate. At least every 50 years the houses had to be renovated from scratch. Today, nobody lives in peat houses anymore.
