Ständig bewohnt ist nur das Kloster Moni Gonias am Eingang zur Halbinsel. Die von Venezianern im Jahr 1634 gestiftete Anlage war ein wichtiges Zentrum im Kampf gegen die türkische Fremdherrschaft. Fünf mal zerstört und ebenso oft wieder aufgebaut, beeindruckt das wehrhafte Kloster mit einer prächtigen Ikonostase und einer umfangreichen Ikonensammlung.
The monastery of Moni Gonias at the entrance to the peninsula is permanently inhabited. The original buildings donated by Venetians in 1634 formed an important center in the fight against Turkish foreign rule. Destroyed five times and rebuilt as often, the fortified monastery impresses with a magnificent iconostasis and an extensive collection of icons.
