The construction of the Eupalinos tunnel was a mathematical showpiece, too. No wonder, as the most famous mathematician and enigmatic personality of ancient times lived in the city. Pythagoras was born in Samos around 570 B.C. Later he had to emigrate to Italy as his critical opinion of the tyrant Polycrates threatened his life.
Der Bau des Eupalinos-Tunnels war auch ein mathematisches Glanzstück, kein Wunder, lebte doch in der Stadt einer der berühmtesten Mathematiker der Antike und zugleich eine der rätselhaftesten Persönlichkeiten. Pythagoras wurde um 570 v.d.Z. in Samos geboren, musste jedoch später nach Süditalien auswandern, weil seine oppositionelle Haltung gegenüber dem Tyrannen Polykrates sein Leben gefährdete.
