The most important structure inside an orthodox church is a a wall adorned with icons, the so-called iconostasis. It separates the public part of the church from the sanctuary which is only accessible to priests, quasi a septum between the heavenly and the earthly world.
Wichtigster Baukörper im Inneren von orthodoxen Kirchen ist eine mit Ikonen geschmückte Wand, die sogenannte Ikonostase. Sie trennt den öffentlichen Kirchenraum vom Altarraum dahinter, der nur für Priester zugänglich ist, gleichsam als Scheidewand zwischen himmlischer und irdischer Welt.
