Church and the state are still tightly connected in Greece, because of its important role as protector of the Greek culture during Turkish times. Especially the older population still supports the Orthodox Church.
Aufgrund ihrer bedeutenden Rolle, die die orthodoxe Kirche in türkischer Zeit als Bewahrerin der griechischen Kultur spielte, sind in Griechenland Kirche und Staat immer noch eng verbunden. Besonders unter der älteren Bevölkerung besitzt die orthodoxe Kirche nach wie vor großen Rückhalt.
