Ferries offer the most convenient way to reach the island of Euboea

. Why the island, as to tourism, lives in the shadow, is probably because it stretches closely along the mainland coast and is therefore not really accepted as an island. Euboea offers little places of interest, but a beautiful setting for a relaxing holiday away from the crowds. Caution should be exercised only on holidays and long weekends. Then the Athenians come a-flocking to the port of Marmari, which is just a short ferry ride from Greek capital.

Warum das Eiland ein touristisches Schattendasein führt, liegt vermutlich daran, dass es sich dicht an der Festlandsküste entlangzieht und deshalb gar nicht so richtig als Insel akzeptiert ist. Euböa bietet kaum Sehenswürdigkeiten, dafür aber eine schöne Kulisse für einen geruhsamen Urlaub fernab der Touristenströme. Vorsicht ist nur zu Ferienzeiten und an langen Wochenenden geboten. Dann fallen die Athener in Scharen im Hafenort Marmari ein, der nur eine kurze Fährfahrt von Griechenlands Hauptstadt entfernt liegt.
