Terrace of the Lions#

In der Nähe des Tempels der Poseidoniasten, einer Gemeinschaft aus Beirut, zog die Terrasse der Löwen alle Blicke auf sich. Fünf von ursprünglich 9 Marmorstatuen blieben erhalten. Sie stammen von den Herrschern aus Naxos, die die eleganten Plastiken vor 2700 Jahren zu Ehren des Apollon und wohl auch zum Beweis ihres eigenen Wohlstandes aufgestellt hatten. Die Blicke der Raubkatzen richten sich zum heute ausgetrockneten heiligen See, dem mythischen Geburtsort von Apollon.
Near the temple of the Poseidoniasts, a community from Beirut, the Terrace of the Lions caught everyone's attention. Five of the originally 9 marble statues were preserved. They came from the rulers of Naxos, who had set up the elegant sculptures 2700 years ago in honor of Apollo, probably also to prove their own prosperity. The eyes of the big cats are aimed at the today seared holy lake, the mythical birthplace of Apollon.
