Poseidon#

When Poseidon, the God of the Seas, chased away the Giant Athos, he lost his trident in the heat of the moment. That is how the peninsula of Chalkidiki with its three fingers Griechenland, Chalkidiki came into being. Where once Gods fought the Giants, sun-seekers laze around on golden sandy beaches nowadays. The peninsula of Kassandra Griechenland, Kassandra is struck worst. The peninsula of Sithonia Griechenland, Sithonia is less overcrowded and still offers some hidden beaches. Chalkidiki's third "finger" Athos Griechenland, Athos , almost all of it being part of the monastery complex of the same name, remained largely unaffected by modern development. Access only for male pilgrims!

Also the back country of Chalkidiki surprises with quite some treasures: the Ottoman historic center of Arnea, the ruins of Stagira, Aristoteles' home town, and the dripstone caves of Petralona.

Als der Meeresgott Poseidon den Riesen Athos verjagte, verlor er im Eifer des Gefechtes seinen Dreizack. So entstand die Halbinsel Chalkidiki Griechenland, Chalkidiki mit ihren drei Fingern. Wo einst Götter gegen Giganten kämpften, aalen sich heute Sonnenhungrige an goldgelben Sandstränden. Am schlimmsten getroffen hat es Kassandra Griechenland, Kassandra . Sithonia Griechenland, Sithonia ist dagegen viel weniger überlaufen und bietet noch so manch versteckte Strände. Der dritte Finger Athos Griechenland, Athos , der fast zur Gänze von der Athos-Klostergemeinde eingenommen wird, blieb von der modernen Erschließung weitgehend unberührt. Nur männliche Pilger haben Zutritt. Auch das Hinterland von Chalkidiki überrascht mit so manchem Schatz: der osmanischen Altstadt von Arnea, den Ruinen von Aristoteles Heimat Stagira und dem Höhlensystem von Petralona.
