The St Michael's Church was built in pre-Romanesque, Carolingian style at the beginning of the 9th century and is one of the most important medieval sacred buildings in Germany. Of the original Carolingian building only the crypt from 822 survived until today, but the original architectural concept was maintained when the church was renovated in the 10th and 11th centuries.
Die St. Michaelskirche wurde im vorromanischen, karolingischem Baustil Anfang des 9. Jhdts. erbaut und zählt zu den bedeutendsten mittelalterlichen Sakralbauten Deutschlands. Von dem ursprünglichen karolingischen Bau blieb nur die Krypta von 822 erhalten, doch wurde bei der Erneuerung der Kirche im 10. und 11. Jahrhundert das ursprüngliche bauliche Konzept beibehalten.
