The Speyer Cathedral Speyer, Germany , from the 11th century, is the largest preserved Romanesque church in the world and in 1981 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Probably in 1025 Emperor Conrad II ordered its construction to build the largest church in the occident. In mid-20th century, the building was re-romanized. Due to a new technology almost all frescoes could be saved, but from the historic preservation's point of view such a restoration is generally rejected.
Der Speyerer Dom Speyer, Germany aus dem 11. Jh. ist die größte erhaltene romanische Kirche der Welt und steht seit 1981 auf der UNESCO-Liste des Weltkulturerbes. Kaiser Konrad II. ließ vermutlich 1025 diesen Bau beginnen, um die größte Kirche des Abendlandes zu errichten. Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde der Bau reromanisiert. Durch eine neuartige Technik gelang es, fast alle Fresken zu retten, doch wird eine Rückrestaurierung im Allgemeinen aus denkmalpflegerischer Sicht abgelehnt.
