The spa town at the frontier with the Czech Republic is dominated by a sandstone rock resembling a beehive from afar. On its summit plateau lie the ruins of a castle and of a monastery. Emperor Charles IV had converted the castle of Oybin

in 1364 to his retirement home and in 1369 he donated a monastery complex on the mount Oybin to the Religious Order of the Celestines.
