Als Höhepunkt romanischer Skulptur in Kroatien gilt das Westtor, geschaffen vom dalmatinischen Bildhauer Radovan im Jahr 1240. Löwen umrahmen das prächtige Eingangstor. Auf ihnen stehen Adam und Eva, umgeben von Engeln und Heiligenfiguren. Das Giebelfeld erzählt die Geburt Christi mit der ersten Waschung des Neugeborenen und einer im Himmelbett ruhenden Maria mit fest gewickeltem Kind. Darüber sieht man jubilierende Engel.
The highlight of Romanesque sculpture in Croatia is the West Gate, created by the Dalmatian sculptor Radovan in 1240. Lions surround the magnificent entrance gate. On them are Adam and Eve, surrounded by angels and saints. The tympanum tells the birth of Christ with the first ablution of the newborn and Mary resting in a four-poster bed with a tightly wrapped child. Above that you can see jubilant angels.
