Steigt man die barocke Freitreppe zum wehrhaften Stadtmauerring hinauf, fühlt man sich ins Mittelalter versetzt. Über viele stürmische Jahrhunderte hinweg blieb das Stadtbild nahezu unversehrt erhalten, weil Korčula im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes 'weitab vom Schuss' lag.
When you climb up the baroque staircase to the fortified city wall ring, you feel transported to the Middle Ages. For many stormy centuries, the cityscape was preserved almost intact, because Korčula was literally 'far off the beaten track'.
