Hunting lodge of Vienna#

The hunting lodge at Mayering is about 25 km (15 mi) southwest of Vienna. It was here that on 30 January 1889 Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and his mistress Baroness Vetsera were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
The shaken Emperor Franz-Josef donated the building to the order of Carmelite nuns. The chapel (on the left) is built over the spot where the tragedy took place.
