Kalta-Minor, the Short Minaret#

Like an unfinished monument, the squat Kalta-Minor dominates the silhouette of the old town. Its diameter is 14 m, its height, however, only 26 m. It was not projected that way, because actually it should become the highest building throughout Central Asia. But static problems, however, prevented further development. Rumour has it, however, that the builder himself has thwarted the finalisation of the tower because he had promised the neighbouring Emir of Bukhara a higher minaret.

Wie ein unvollendetes Monument beherrscht das gedrungene Kalta Minor-Minarett die Silhouette der Altstadt. Sein Durchmesser beträgt 14 m, seine Höhe jedoch nur 26 m. So war es nicht geplant, denn eigentlich sollte es das höchste Bauwerk in ganz Mittelasien werden. Statische Probleme verhinderten jedoch den Weiterbau. Die Gerüchte berichten allerdings, dass der Baumeister selbst die Vollendung des Turmes vereitelt hat, weil er dem benachbarten Emir von Buchara ein höheres Minarett versprochen hatte.
