In the center of the capital of the same name, the huge King Faisal Mosque rises into the sky. Donated by the Saudi king it underlines Sharjah's reputation as the "most puritan" emirate of the federation. Alcohol is generally taboo. Also wearing beach clothes in public is a punishable offense.
Im Zentrum der gleichnamigen Hauptstadt ragt die riesige King Faisal Moschee in den Himmel. Gestiftet vom saudischen König unterstreicht sie Sharjahs Ruf als „sittenstrengstes“ Emirat der Föderation. Alkohol ist grundsätzlich tabu. Auch das öffentliche Tragen von Strandkleidung steht unter Strafe.
